The Sherwood offers 4 star quality family run bed and breakfast in the Newington area of Edinburgh where Edinburgh Guest House our guests can enjoy the benefits of our double glazed and centrally heated rooms many of which have full fridge and microwave in addition to the normal teacoffee making facilities. All rooms have flat screen T.V hairdryer iron and iron board.The Sherwood is only 1 mile to Edinburgh Castle where there are literally hundreds of years of history to enjoy along with stunning views over Edinburgh. The castle is at the top of one of the lovliest and oldest streets in the world known as The Royal Mile which runs between the castleat the top of the hill spreading down to the Palace of Holyrood House at the bottom.The Sherwood is a fully renovated Edwardian 'B' listed building. Built in 1832 it retains most of the original features and character ( but with modern heating and plumbing ) of a Georgian town house. In those days Newington was the up and coming suburb for the fairly well to do merchants in Edinburgh. The house was first registered to a young lady the daughter of a tea merchant which was a bold move for it's day. We like to think we have retained that spirit of boldness with our decor and soft furnishings. We do try harder to ensure your stay is a happy and comfortable one that you are eager to repeat often.



Hotel directions :
Sherwood Guest house is on the A701 exactly 1 mile from Edinburgh's famous Royal Mile. It is best reached by car if you take the A720 city bypass and get off at the Straiton junction. Then follow the signs for the city centre.From the Waverly Train Station a taxi is very reasonably priced or if you walk up to Princes St. you can take any bus going to Minto St. ( nos 3 7 8 29 49 to name but a few )From the airport a taxi will cost in excess of £22.00 depending on traffic. Bus to city centre is available at around £3.50 each way then bus as above.
